Abstract
"19 patients with transitional cell carcinoma of the ureter and pelvis operated upon at Taegu Presbyterian Medical Center during the past 10 years are reviewed from August, 1970 through August, 1980. Clinical observation and results are summarized below: 1. The range in age was from 38 to 78 years, average 56 years and there were 17 men and 2 women. 2. Those patients without renal function, as shown by the IVP, tended to have neoplasms of a higher grade and stage, and had a median survival of only 32.5 months. 3. Vesical carcinoma was demonstrated subsequently in 57 per cent without a history of bladder cancer. The interval from initial treatment to diagnosis of bladder cancer in these patients ranged from 1 month to 4 years, with a median of 19.8 months. It is recommended that endoscopy should be an integral part of the follow up examination. 4. The over-all 5-year survival rate of 38 per cent was influenced by the grade, the stage and renal function. Other factors such as age end sex of the patient and multiplicity of tumors, did not have a significant influence on survival."
